Tuesday

This third day I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, "They are my people," and they will say, "The Lord is our God." Zechariah 13: 9

The physical aspect of this one came from Revelation 3: 14--22. God spoke to the church and described them as lukewarm. Something He would spit out of his mouth. Refining a metal is to make it pure, free of impurities, by placing it in a fire. When you remove the impurity the metal becomes more precious. The problem with this is that fire burns. Many of the definitions of refine begin with the words "to free". Repentance brings freedom, purer relationships with God and others. We have the opportunity to invite God to refine us through and through. I won't lie this is a difficult thing. It can burn, but in the end I am freer.
