"...there remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God." Hebrews 4:9
Saturday's Word: Rest
Saturday's Discipline: A day of rest.
Saturday's Focus: a day to recreate and refresh, freedom from anything that wearies
Doesn't seem like much of a stretch does it? Still this can be one of the most difficult. We are raised in a culture that values productivity...getting something done. How can we get things done when we are resting? From the beginning God instituted a day to rest. I wondered does the Almighty really need to take a day off? Probably not in the way we think. He wasn't physically tired or mentally exhausted, but he had been working for six days creating. Why rest? The one thing I am learning is that to be in relationship with God or others we must "be" with them. Jesus went to weddings. He hung out with others. God shows us in the beginning and Jesus reminds us that to build relationships we must take a day to rest. A day to relax, laugh, even take a nap. I realize that sometimes this is impossible, but it is mostly found in our attitude about time. Often you hear, "there is just not enough time in the day". Still everyone has the same amount really. It is how we approach the time we have that makes a difference. My suggestion if you can do nothing else...is to refuse to hurry on this day.
